DIY Sponge Shoes

Has your basement ever been flooded? We know you can use a sump pump to get rid of most of the water in your basement. But what do you do with the remaining amount of water? Well we have created a pair of shoes that will help you clean up that remaining water! We tried to use as many as possible household materials. Learn how to build them below:

Materials you need:

- A wood board 1" thick at least as long and as wide as your boot.
- Sponges (enough to cover the board)
- Bucket
- Grill grate
- Rope
- Water proof glue
- Screws
- Sewing Velcro
- Rubber boots

Tools
- Scissors (cut the rope and Velcro)
- Screw driver
- Drill (holes in bucket)
- Ruler (to measure pieces and spaces)
- Saw (unless it is pre-cut)

Steps
1. Arrange sponges to fit your board. Try not to have much of the sponge hang off the side.
2. Glue sponges to the board using water proof glue
3. Let the glue dry (look at the back of the glue bottle for drying instructions)
4. Center the boot on the board
5. Separate the Velcro and cut each side to an inch longer than the width of the board
6. Screw Velcro to your board to secure the boot. Look at the video below
7. Secure boot to the board using Velcro straps

8. Take bucket and place grill grate on top
9. Drill holes in the bucket so you can tie the grill grate on using rope
10. Cut pieces of rope and secure grate to your bucket

Now you're ready to clean up some flood water!
